Logitech is a popular name when it comes to PC and gaming peripherals, and when it comes to gaming mice, they’re one of the best. Today, we’re focusing our attention on the Logitech G502 Lightspeed wireless gaming mouse, which is an innovative and high-performing wireless gaming mouse.
For PC gamers, a high-performing gaming mouse is as vital as having a fast CPU or graphics card. Technically, if you have an old mouse, it can be used for gaming; however, a proper gaming mouse will offer enhanced performance for play. It also gives you an edge when playing with your friends online.
But in reality, PC gamers heavily debate on what makes an efficient and excellent gaming mouse. Some consider gaming mice as superior since these don’t sport cables to drag around. Some view these as inferior since wireless mice’s battery often drains out. Plus, they also claim that there’s increased latency due to wireless communication with the computer.
The thing is, Logitech’s G502 Lightspeed offers a possible solution to such issues with their wireless charging system. Though the gaming mouse is a bit pricey, let’s see if it’s something useful, efficient, and worth investing in; so first up, let’s check out what’s inside the box.
Logitech G502 Lightspeed Review – What’s in the Box?
The Logitech G502 Lightspeed comes in a durable cardboard box that will guarantee protection to the mouse. The front displays a gigantic G502 on the left with Logitech’s logo just below it. You will also find the “Lightspeed” branding at the corner of the box, plus “Wireless Gaming Mouse” just below that. Of course, there’s an image of the gaming mouse itself at the center-right portion of the box.
When you look at the back of the box, you will see another image of the gaming mouse but with a different angle. It features more of the side and bottom portion of the mouse to show its weight storage areas and dongle storage cover. The rest of the space features the main aspects of the gaming mouse such as its wireless technology, programmable buttons, the Hero Sensor, and its weights.
Inside the box, you will find the Logitech G502 Lightspeed immediately since it’s kept securely in a small tray. There’s also a setup guide included. It shows you where all the buttons are, as well as how to start using the product.
Aside from the mouse, other accessories that are present in the box include a charging cord, a small plastic case with weights for balancing the Logitech G502 Lightspeed. Also, the case houses an adapter and a wireless USB dongle.
Logitech G502 Lightspeed Review
If you’ve already utilized the past versions of the G502, then you’ll already know how the Logitech G502 Lightspeed looks. For those who have no idea how this looks. It’s a large, right-hand Ergonomic gaming mouse that has textured grips and curved thumb rest.
The top of the mouse displays a total of ten buttons, while the right and left-click buttons are on their designated areas. A clickable scroll wheel is also available, and below this, you will find a button that lets you modify the scroll wheel’s resistance.
Under the adjuster, a programmable button is present for checking the battery levels. On the left portion of the left-click button, you will see a pair of DPI or dots-per-inch sensitivity adjusting buttons. On the side, two large thumb-buttons are present while below these is a sniper button to decrease the DPI. If you think about it, buttons are abundant on this mouse even if it isn’t considered a huge one. However, the buttons are all laid out correctly to avoid crowding.
Underneath the Logitech G502 Lightspeed is the on / off switch, as well as a little circular pop-out section. This compartment keeps the wireless dongle, and can also store two additional 4-gram weights. If you have the PowerPlay setup, you can swap in its battery since the PowerPlay charges wirelessly while you play. It’s a highly useful feature, yet it limits the weight choices.
Speaking of weights, the Logitech G502 Lightspeed has removable panels just like the wired G502, allowing you to add metallic weights instead. The design isn’t similar to the earlier mouse since the Lightspeed requires more space for wireless circuitry, but what’s good is that the result is the same.
Lightspeed is the technology that every e-sports professional needs. It provides ultimate speed and reliability. This advanced technology has been remastered and is now in the G502 Lightspeed, together with a weight reduction of 7 grams.
While the Logitech G502 Lightspeed still has the same build and the original set of features, it comes with the company’s newest innovations. It has the same thin wall design with a cutting-edge endoskeleton to reduce its weight to 7 grams. It also comes with the leading wireless technologies in the industry, which include HERO – 16K, Powerplay, and Lightspeed.
HERO – 16K Gaming Sensor
The HERO – 16K is the next generation gaming sensor. It is capable of providing a tracking speed of more than 400 IPS across the whole 16,000 DPI range. It also delivers ten times the power efficiency compared to the older generations. With these technologies, you get a high-performance, responsive gaming mouse that will help you win in all of your gaming sessions.
Lightsync RGB Lighting
The full-spectrum Lightsync RGB is an entirely customizable feature of the Logitech G502 Lightspeed mouse. With this, the mouse reacts with your audio, gameplay, or your screen color. You can also set all of your Logitech G RGB peripherals to synchronize together. To match your room and PC rig, you can set the lighting across a variety of 16.8 million colors. Through the Logitech G HUB software, the RGB Lighting is under your control.
The Logitech G502 Lightspeed is PVC free. It also features Plastic Bank’s Plastic Neutral mark. With every purchase of the mouse, Logitech helps in funding Plastic Bank’s programs such as eliminating ocean-bound plastic.
The Logitech G502 Lightspeed wireless gaming mouse uses a HERO – 16K optical sensor and has a sensitivity of 100 to 16,000 DPI. It has a 1,000Hz polling rate; plus, the mouse sports a total of eleven functional buttons perfect for gaming.
This wireless mouse from Logitech features 2 LED zones with a total of 16.8 million colors. The mouse’s cable is adequate in length as it measures 1.9 meters or 6.2 feet. You can also opt to detach the cable from the mouse, depending on your preference.
Using the Product
With the eleven programmable buttons of the Logitech G502 Lightspeed, we know that this wireless gaming mouse is perfect for any game you throw at it. If you look at it and inspect the mouse, notice that it sports the standard form factor for FPS (first-person shooter) games. So basically, it worked great when we used it for playing Overwatch.
We didn’t have issues with responsiveness because it was quick and receptive. Plus, the DPI button close to where our thumbs rest, allowed us to aim at opponents precisely. Technically, this isn’t surprising for someone who has already utilized a Logitech G mouse for gaming. But despite this, the Logitech G502 Lightspeed surpassed our expectations and performed flawlessly.
The Logitech G502 Lightspeed feels just as good, or maybe even better than the previous models. It sports a better and more enhanced sensor, plus it doesn’t have any wires that often get in the way of gaming.
This mouse’s HERO – 16K sensor, 1,000Hz polling rates, and 100 to 16,000 DPI sensitivity options offer a lot of useful choices for gamers. It also makes for an excellent tool for strategy and shooter games, especially when assigning DPI adjustments to the current buttons. We didn’t notice or experience any lags while using this gaming mouse, but you always have the option to link its detachable cable if you want.
What we consider as the flashiest and most exciting feature of the G502 Lightspeed is its compatibility and use with the charging mat. The mat doesn’t only continuously charge the mouse, but pairing it with Logitech’s G-Hub software suite lets your PC register the device with ease. What more, you also don’t have to plug the USB nano dongle, which is something that we think is very convenient.
We loved that it’s free from the detection problems we had when testing other similar products. Plus, you can also synchronize lighting between two devices in G-Hub if you want unified aesthetics on your desk.
Overall, the Logitech G502 Lightspeed performed exceptionally, and we will give it two thumbs-up for it.
We were fully satisfied when we tested the Logitech G502 Lightspeed mouse, and we have nothing to dislike about this. While it may be too pricey for some, we still think that it’s worth the purchase since it delivered more than what we had expected. It has a classic design, and it was easy and comfortable to use. Its battery life is long, and if you don’t like having to charge the mouse, you have the option to use the Powerplay charging mat.
Logitech produces a lot of exceptional gaming mice and wireless mice. The Logitech G502 Lightspeed excellently combines the two types in a single mouse. It has everything that every gamer needs: speed, comfort, precision, and reliability. If you’re looking for the best wireless gaming mouse, we highly recommend the Logitech G502 Lightspeed.
