JBL Under Armour True Wireless Flash Review

8.6

True wireless headphones are becoming more popular these days, and this is all thanks to products like AirPods from Apple. But if you’re someone who is into sports, there are limited options for you when talking about true wireless headphones.

Again, JBL and Under Armour have partnered to find an excellent solution to this, and it is the JBL Under Armour True Wireless Flash headphones.

The two companies billed their latest headphones as fully wireless sports headphones made for runners by runners. These are the first real wireless headphones from both companies, and as far as these types of headphones go, they’re perfect. The thing is, their allure and charm are tempered by a big charging case that is much bigger compared to the charging case of Apple’s AirPods.

The Product

JBL Under Armour True Wireless Flash Review

What you’ll notice first about the JBL Under Armour True Wireless Flash

is its unique style. It looks good, it has that classy and sleek vibe to it, and it’s attractive. The earbuds are mostly black featuring red highlights, which is like every other similar product from JBL / Under Armour.

These are slightly more prominent compared to other similar products in the market, but it’s not a bad thing since the headphones weigh adequately.

On each face of the headphones, you will see a button for controlling different aspects of the JBL Under Armour True Wireless Flash. An example is this: you can pause and play audio by simply single-pressing the button located on the right earbud. Or, you can press the left headphone’s button to allow the bionic hearing feature. This specific feature lets you hear your surroundings better and more transparent.

When it comes to the charging case, it is pretty nice too. The thing here is, the JBL Under Armour True Wireless Flash is more extensive than what others may want. On one end of the case, you will see LED indicators for the battery levels, and also a micro USB charging case. It would have been even better if JBL adopted a USB Type-C for their True Wireless Flash. Speaking of the other end of the charging case, you will see a nylon strap fixed in place.

Since the JBL Under Armour True Wireless Flash is something made for athletes, specifically for runners, the company included a set of cautionary features such as the Ambient Aware mode. This option amplifies external noise when playing media, so you will always be aware of your surroundings. Do note that the Ambient Aware mode is different from the TalkThru mode, which boosts the volume of voices.

We were able to converse with friends without having to remove the headphones. And while we don’t find the Ambient Aware mode to be incredibly useful, it is vital for athletes who dislike the idea of bone-conduction headphones.

Absolute Comfort

The Under Armour True Wireless Flash earphones are comfortable. Despite the size and bulky design, these are lightweight and fit well in the ears. These come with a variety of fin and tip sizes so you can choose which one fits best and is most comfortable for you.

While some people do not like in-ear type of earphones since these can cause ear fatigue, you won’t experience that with the True Wireless Flash. It is because the headphones sport an angled design, so they don’t enter the ear canal as deep as the common in-ears do.

Very Breathable

Like most in-ear designs, the Under Armour True Wireless Flash provides breathability. Even if these earphones are bulky, these block most of the airflow in your ear canal. While the earphones do that, they don’t trap too much heat. With that, you won’t sweat more than usual.

Portable and Easy to Carry Around

As mentioned, the Under Armour True Wireless Flash may be bulkier than most earphones, but these can fit inside pockets or a bag. It’s also easy to carry these around since they come with a durable charging case.

Using the Product

When working out, we don’t concern ourselves in getting the most natural sounds when it comes to audio but thanks to the enhanced lows since this helps motivate us a bit more during workout sessions. The JBL Under Armour True Wireless Flash was able to do that, and these delivered an excellent listening experience with a lot of low frequencies.

Its low end is clear and pronounced, but the headphones did not go overboard, and this is something we liked a lot. The bass was thick, stable, and impressive while remaining smooth and soothing to the ears. That’s great news for everyone who appreciates bass but dislikes it overshadowing other frequencies.

Its high-end is precise and detailed, making it pleasing to the ears. The sounds of the cymbals were intricate but not overpowering, while the percussions blended perfectly with the music played.

The frequency response consistency of the JBL Under Armour True Wireless Flash is excellent. We achieved the proper fit and airtight seal with the help of the included tips from JBL. With that, we were able to hear consistent treble and bass delivery each time we used the headphones.

The JBL Under Armour True Wireless Flash headphones links to your device via Bluetooth 4.2. We didn’t experience any issues or problems with its connectivity, except for one time when the True Wireless Flash went out of sync with its connection. It was quite surprising that it immediately synced anyway, so there aren’t any complaints about this.

For its battery life, we were able to listen to over five hours on a charge, which makes it pretty good and convenient. Its charging case will provide you with an extra 20-hours of use or a total of four charges.

Conclusion

The JBL Under Armour True Wireless Flash is one of the best pairs of earphones with features that make it perfect for working out. These are waterproof, have a beautiful design, fit perfectly in the ears, and delivers high-quality sounds. These aren’t only for music since they also work great for calls.

What we liked about these is the two transparency modes since these work excellently. We were able to hear ambient sounds when we tested the earphones. When it comes to its design, it’s perfect for intense training and workouts. Aside from that, it’s comfortable enough to let you enjoy your music for extended periods.

If you consider its price, the headphones are definitely worth the purchase. So if you’re looking for a high-quality pair of earphones for use daily, we highly recommend the Under Armour True Wireless Flash.
