HyperX is a company that has a long and rich history of producing high quality, excellent, and budget friendly gaming headsets. Some years ago, they offered us the original HyperX Cloud Stinger, and this gave everyone an excellent value for money. Now, the company is back with a blast, refreshing us with their HyperX Cloud Stinger Wireless headset.
This is not as inexpensive as its model of the HyperX Cloud Stinger, but it is still highly affordable so you don’t need to worry about a thing. But does this headset compromise too much to meet that specific price point?
Today, we’re going to put the HyperX Cloud Stinger Wireless to the test to find out if it’s something worth purchasing, and if it’s something as good as what HyperX claims it to be. First up, let’s check out what’s in the box.
HyperX Cloud Stinger Wireless Review – What’s in the Box?
When we got our Cloud Stinger Wireless, it came in a box that sported a red and black theme. It isn’t that flashy compared to other headset packaging, but it does have all the necessary information and features about it.
In front, you will find a huge image of the Cloud Stinger Wireless at the center, while the name of the company and the headset model can be found on the upper left corner of the box. Below this, you can find some of the features of the headset, and on the higher point of the box, there’s a red strip that notes the different consoles that are compatible with this headset. This includes the Xbox One, PC, PS4, Mac, Wii U, and mobile.
The rear portion of the box provides you with the primary features of the Cloud Stinger such as the steel slider, 50-millimeter drivers, plus the swivel mute mic.
When looking inside, you’ll notice that HyperX decided to tone down on the grandness for this specific headset, but it still does come with a tough and well-padded foam. Other than the Cloud Stinger, other items that you’ll find in the package include the welcome note, an instructional guide, a micro USB charging cable, plus a wireless dongle to utilize the Cloud Stinger with the compatible consoles.
HyperX Cloud Stinger Wireless Review
The wireless HyperX Cloud Stinger appears just like a headset for gaming, but the only difference is that it is more subtle than that. Compared to the older versions, the Cloud Stinger doesn’t sport any of the red accents; instead, the company chose to go with an full black theme which is pretty cool and classy. Definitely a good look for the headset since it gives off that high-quality and premium vibe.
Aside from the fully black design, the headset also features a rather conservative design: a plastic chassis with huge over the ear foam cups, plus a padded and really comfy headband that goes along with an expandable, notched steel bar just beneath it. On the right ear piece, you will find a volume dial, while the left one shows the power button, flexible boom mic, and a charging port.
This microphone isn’t removable or retractable, but you can automatically mute this part once you push it up. It’s good that the headset comes with a wireless dongle that you can easily plug into gaming console or PC. Just keep in mind that the headset does not have an aux port, so this only means that the Cloud Stinger Wireless is, exclusive for wireless use.
The headset comes with a pretty nice build quality. It is mainly built from durable plastic yet HyperX included necessary amounts of metal on areas that count, like the frame. When we tried it on, we didn’t feel like the Cloud Stinger Wireless was on the brink of breaking. In general, this will be able to withstand most of the day-to-day abuse.
HyperX claims that the Cloud Stinger Wireless is a super comfortable headset, and this is actually good, especially if you’re someone who often uses the headset for prolonged hours. It comes with a ton of padding for the ear cups and beneath the headband so you can be sure to get all the comfort you need while gaming.
Let’s talk about the design: it’s something you’d expect given its price range, the Cloud Stinger Wireless is a no-frills, simple, but displays a really impressive take on wireless headsets. The molded plastic build feels durable and premium since the frame makes use of both steel and plastic, which is a pretty good combination.
It gives off a nice exterior since the company made use of quality materials; and for the padding on the ear cups and headband, these are covered with smooth pleather that helps retain the understated look of the Cloud Stinger Wireless.
The padding on the headset makes use of HyperX’s proprietary memory foam so it feels really soft and comfortable, even if you play for prolonged periods with the pads pressed snuggly against your ears.

For the audio, we were provided with controlled bass sounds that react whenever necessary. The mid-range comes with a slightly different tuning but it isn’t something bad.
