Using the Product
When it comes to comparing mesh networks, the best way to configure the D-Link COVR is by utilizing the company’s own wireless application; though you can also configure this via web interface if you would rather have a more hands-on solution to this. The D-Link Wi-Fi application for Android and iOS devices will assist you throughout the whole installation process: one of its nodes will be set to the main A node so it’s best to keep a sticker on that specific node for future references.
You will need to open the application then click on “Install Device”; after this, you can choose the D-Link COVR C1203 from the menu before clicking next. Take note that the application will notify you about the complete synchronization process which will last around three minutes; and surprisingly, it is quite accurate. The nodes in the box were specifically made to be paired and pre-configured with each other for a quick and easier setup process, and as expected, we did have a quick and seamless synchronization process so we really appreciated this a lot.
You’ll notice a single light at the top of each node and you will get a lot of feedback with these. The light actually flashes orange when the other nodes are not in sync with each other and it flashes white when connected poorly; additionally, the lights will also stay completely lit when connected properly. The whole process is rather quick even when we switched nodes around various power points.
The D-Link COVR can be installed via web browser or the D-Link Wi-Fi application which is available for both Android and iPhone users. If you decide to utilize the web interface, it will let you see which available devices are linked to your network; it also lets you manage the guest networks, prioritize traffic, as well as include web page filters. Through the QOS Engine, you will be able to select which devices available in the network should be given priority traffic, and an example would be a gaming console or media player that usually has the highest speed.
