If you’re one of these users, then we’ve got your back since we’ll not only look at the basics. We’re also going to check out the Dark Rock Pro 4’s features, specifications, and if it performs well-enough for your needs.
Be Quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4 Review – What’s in the Box?
The Be Quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4 comes in a very detail-oriented package with an image of the product in front.
Below the image, you will see the name of the product. At the back, you will find notes about the company written in different languages for everyone’s convenience.
What we loved about the Dark Rock Pro 4’s packaging is that it sports an all-dark theme that’s simple yet eye-catching. Its packaging is similar to other Dark Rock Pro coolers that give us a premium vibe which is something we highly appreciate.
Inside, you will find the usual collection of mounting hardware, brackets, thermal compound, and a 2-way PWM splitter. Be Quiet! also included a magnetic long-necked Philips screwdriver that’s quite handy when installing the Dark Rock Pro 4. There are six different instructional manuals inside the box that are in English, Polish, Spanish, German, French, and Russian. Each of these manuals comes with highly-detailed mounting instructions for both AMD and Intel processors.
Be Quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4 Review
The top portion of the Be Quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4 comes with a brushed and nicely-shaped aluminum top plate with caps that conceal each end of the 6-millimeter copper heat pipes that poke out.
When looking at the Dark Rock Pro 4 up close, you can say that it does have a unique appeal to it. Its 45 wave-contoured and airflow-optimized cooling fins is a significant upgrade from the traditional rectangular-shaped ones sported by every entry-level product in the market. We also noticed that some of the bottom fins are not as wide. It is technically the design element for the new revision, allowing the Dark Rock Pro 4 to have better memory clearance.
For the fins, the front and back edge differ from each other, adding to its one of a kind appeal. Like always, the heat sink’s quality is top-notch, and we have zero issues to throw at it. However, you should remember that the Be Quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4 is quite heavy, weighing a total of 1,130 grams.
The top plate of the unit displays two removable caps to allow access for the screwdriver that blends nicely with the available heat pipe caps. While the top plate’s design isn’t as elegant nor fancy as that of the Dark Rock Pro 3, it doesn’t look bad and has a charming appeal to it. If you take the company’s other design into consideration, you will see the Be Quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4 does have that classic Be Quiet! vibe.
A total of seven heat pipes take in heat from the base, transferring these into the available dual fin stacks. It’s good to take note of the fins’ dimples, which enhance the design’s air-cooling efficiency. Lastly, its base is smooth to the touch despite seeing faint machining marks.
Let’s now focus on the general specifications of the Be Quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4. Overall, the unit is 145.7 millimeters long, 136 millimeters wide, 162.8 millimeters high, and weighs a total of 1.13 kilograms.
For Intel, the Dark Rock Pro 4 will fit the LGA-115X, LGA-2011, LGA-1336, V3, and LGA-2066 sockets. When it comes to AMD, the unit can fit all FM and AM sockets. However, if you want to use it with a TR system, there is another model for this application.
The Be Quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4 makes use of removable Silent Wings 3 PWM fans where one is 120 millimeters, and the other is 135 millimeters. For the fans’ noise level, it reached 24.3 dBa @100%; and lastly, the Be Quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4 comes with a 3-year warranty, which is something we appreciate.
Operates Virtually yet Inaudibly
With the two Silent Wing 3 PWM fans, the Dark Rock Pro 4 stays silent even when running at 100%. These fans have fan blades that are airflow-optimized, smooth six-pole motors, and advanced fluid-dynamic bearings. The front fan has a funnel-shaped air inlet in its frame, allowing it to provide high air pressure. The heat sink of the fan mounting has vibration isolating features.
Extreme Cooling Power for Performance to Noise Ratio
Even when you overclock and use demanding graphic applications, the Dark Rock Pro 4 does not compromise cooling and acoustic performance. It has an impressive 250W TDP rating, and it keeps temperatures low even during your CPU’s peak performance.
Advanced Design for High-Performance Cooling
The Dark Rock Pro 4 comes with seven copper heat pipes measuring six millimeters long to maximize heat conduction. The cooling fins are wave-contoured, airflow-optimized, and their surfaces have tiny dots for better air circulation. The unique black coating features ceramic particles for excellent heat transfer.
Dual-Tower Layout for Powerful Cooling
The Dark Rock Pro 4 has two aluminum heat sinks with cutouts for better RAM compatibility. There are also two pre-installed fans and room for an extra 120-millimeter fan for enhanced cooling. With these features, your components will stay cool at all times.
Stylish and User-Friendly
To match the design of the Dark Rock Pro 4 cooler, it comes with a mounting kit that is entirely black. The cooler has a brushed aluminum top cover, and to add to its elegance, it also comes with a diamond-cut finish. Additionally, it’s user-friendly and easy to install.
Using the Product
The Be Quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4 performed excellently, and we can say that it worked close to the levels of some of the high-end coolers that we’ve tried out before.
With our processor, the Be Quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4 also performed pretty well, and with a full load, we can say that it’s the best performing cooler that we’ve ever tested. Though we did notice that it does slightly fall behind some dual-fan liquid coolers, but then again, it still functioned efficiently. For its idle performance, it had a stronger performance, which is quite notable.
When overclocked, the Be Quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4, stood out from the rest and performed smoothly without any issues.
When we tested the unit for its noise levels without overclocking, it was incredibly silent. We decided to leave the settings on the default fan profile and even under full processor loads, it was pretty much dead silent.
When we tried comparing this with other coolers, we were able to tell that it performed like how it should – quietly and efficiently. The fan speed barely moved above 1000 RPM, and it was inaudible enough; even if we removed the tempered glass window, the Dark Rock Pro 4 was still quiet.
The Dark Rock Pro 4 delivered powerful performance that matched a lot of 40-millimeter AIO liquid coolers, and it’s technically great to use if you plan to build a high-performance system.
Overall, the Be Quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4 delivered stable yet quiet cooling performance. The company claimed that it’s excellent for demanding tasks, overclocking, and heavy loads, which is true. It’s an impressive CPU cooler that performed quietly and efficiently, making it an excellent choice. With that, we give the Dark Rock Pro 4 our two thumbs up for its performance.
Be Quiet! has earned a good reputation for its high-performance products such as coolers, cooling fans, power supplies, and chassis. Of course, the Dark Rock Pro 4 is one of these.
Although it doesn’t have RGB features, it comes with a great aesthetic and durable construction. It’s easy to install, and most importantly, it operates quietly while delivering high-performance cooling, making it one of the excellent choices for your computer. With these features, it’s hard to find reasons not to include this in your list. Be Quiet! also covers all of the newest processors. If you’re looking for the best CPU cooler for your build, the Dark Rock Pro 4 is an excellent option, and we highly recommend this cooler to you.
