This DIMM kit that we have is the 16GB version, and is a CL16 kit. Each DIMM has 8GB, so single, dual, and even quad-channel is compatible. Taking a closer look at these modules, when speaking of them visually, they give you a very simplistic and minimalist design which is good.
We think that it’s really appealing to see the company remodelling their Ballistix Elite modules, specifically when it comes to their internal performance capacities. However, they opted to keep the aesthetics the same as their much older modules, and this is something that we aren’t complaining about at all.
The black and thick anodized heatsink, accompanied by the rugged edges, gives the Ballistix Elite 3600 MHz 16GB DDR4 a rather military-like appearance and style. Its heatsink comes as a three-piece design with the center heatsink featuring an “Elite” logo.
As you’ve noticed from the sticker, the Ballistix Elite kit can handle latencies of 16 – 18 – 18 – 38 at 1.35 Volts, which is very good latency for this memory. When it comes to optimal stability, we highly recommend that you opt for the manufacturer’s provided settings at default XMP 2.0 or SPD profile which you can readily enable in the BIOS of your motherboard.
For the black PCB and its matching heat spreader, we really liked them, and style-wise, this is a very appealing kit which makes it really aesthetic. Honestly, its exterior and looks matter, especially when you’re building, or when you have a high-end, cool-looking rig. Now for the extras, Ballistix provides you with a limited lifetime warranty for the Ballistix Elite 3600 MHz 16GB DDR4 which is really great.
What’s really good about this Ballistix Elite DDR4 is that they’re only 40 millimeters in height, so these won’t bring about too many incompatibilities when used for big air CPU coolers and the like.

Using the Product
Utilizing the XMP profile the Ballistix Elite 3600 MHz 16GB DDR4 memory is excellent in its performance, and increasing the speed makes it even better. When we tested the kit, we were glad that this could run easily at a frequency of 3600 MHz.
This kit that we’re testing is aimed at the newest Intel series that allows for 3600 MHz, and this is where the Ballistix Elite 3600 MHz 16GB DDR4 works perfectly. Making use of Intel-XMP makes it a breeze to get some serious performance going.
When it comes to overclocking we tinkered around a bit with it and it’s great that it is not limited. There were no signs of crashes when we changed the CL from the default, and there were also no issues or problems when we tried boosting the frequency a bit. But then again, with 3600 MHz CL16, would you really need a lot more memory bandwidth? Probably not.
Installing the Ballistic Elite 3600 took no time at all, simply press them into the RAM slots and then your up and running. The heat spreaders did not cause any issues in regards to size when fitting into the system. After these were recognized, the motherboard handled everything perfectly. It showed better computing speeds, and for gaming and this is VR ready
Upon observation, our image processing time was faster; and we noticed that some of the improvements on our entire system when using the kit. We also noticed that the games we tested ran better and smoothly, it was all perfect. Obviously we do suggest that you pair these with a good video card so you can get the best performance when it comes to gaming.
If you aren’t really planning on tweaking the memory, then this kit is still going to be a good one for you, especially if you’re someone who’s been wanting some 3600 MHz, high-frequency memory.
When it comes to transcoding movies and videos, faster memory helps a lot, and it shaves off the transcoding time that takes more than what we usually want. For content creation, a couple of cores matter, while for gaming, the GPU becomes the deciding factor for most.
The Ballistix Elite 3600 MHz 16GB DDR4 worked flawlessly and excellently when we used them to upgrade our rigs. It was very well made and the line surely does have a great reputation for quality RAM – and we definitely saw this in our tests. No issues, no lag, and everything seemed perfect. As mentioned, this Ballistix Elite 3600 MHz 16GB DDR4 memory kit sports thermal sensors that are integrated in each module. With that, it did allow us to monitor the temperature in real-time via the custom Ballistix M.O.D. Utility software.
The M.O.D. Utility or Memory Overview Display Utility is a Crucial’s free downloadable software. This is where you can monitor the memory speed and temperature of your DDR4 modules, as well as enhance their performance.
The Ballistix M.O.D. Utility allows for full throttle as it keeps your memory’s temperatures under control. Even with hours of gaming at max settings your memory will stay cool.
Through this software, you can keep track of memory temperature in real time. With the integrated thermal sensor on the memory, you can also keep tabs on memory performance.
The SPD Data tab shows the basic details about your Ballistix Elite 3600 MHz 16GB DDR4 modules. These include the model number, capacity, a preview of the XMP Profile settings, and a breakdown of the JEDEC DDR4 specifications that have been approved currently.
For the Temperature tab, this is where you can monitor the temperature readouts in real time. With each module having its own thermal sensor, you can individually monitor these via the M.O.D. Utility. Here, you will see the difference of the temperatures between idle and load. The temperatures also depend on the airflow and proximity of the modules to heat-producing components.
Another tab in the M.O.D. Utility is the Lights tab. This is where you manage RGB LED effects. You can choose from a wide range of colors and LED patterns. You can also adjust the brightness of lights or disable the LEDs. However, you will not use this for the Ballistix Elite 3600 MHz 16GB DDR4 since it doesn’t have integrated LEDs.
On the Settings tab, you can personalize the utility based on your preferences. This allows you to choose your unit of measurement & real-time refresh rates, modify the taskbar temperature widget, as well as set up to two temperature alarms.
The last tab in the M.O.D. Utility is the About tab. This is where you’ll find the details about the software, such as the version of the utility. There is also a helpful link that you can check out for software updates.
Overall, we think that the M.O.D. Utility is a great software for real-time monitoring and managing the Ballistix Elite modules. It’s great that the utility allows for monitoring the status of system components since enthusiasts always want to know every single information about these. Since the costs of DDR4 memory kits are close to that of a motherboard, processor, and even graphics cards, it’s just right to have the same monitoring capabilities as well.
