The UE Boom 2 – One Kick Ass Bluetooth Speaker with a Great Look
The UE Boom 2 has a cylinder body covered in fabric that looks great with its black to grey gradient. It comes in at 6.9 inches in height and 2.6 inches in width. The speaker has a weight of 1.2 pounds.
A noticeable rubber strip runs down the side, which holds the “+” and “-“ volume symbols. A concealed NFC is situated on lower part of the strip.
Power and Bluetooth buttons are present with lights located at one end of the cylinder. A D-ring sits just over the micro USB power port with a 3.5mm audio input sitting on the other cylinder end. The ports are concealed by rubber-based covers that are connected directly into the speaker.
The UE tag found on the rubber strip is also made up of rubber. A finely-woven cloth surrounds a majority of the speaker’s body. The UE Boom 2 comes with a rugged look. Thanks to its IPX7 technology, the speaker can be submerged in water for a short period of time without suffering any serious damage. It also functions as a speakerphone as indicated by a pinhole, which represents as a discreet microphone.
Currently, the UE Boom 2 is available in six different colors: blue, green, black, purple, green, and red.
The UE Boom 2 continues to build up on the strong foundation created by its predecessor. It made huge strides in its 360-degree sound delivery — an aspect that was immediately addressed.
The speaker comes with a UE Boom app, which allows for adjusting equalizer settings. It boasts a “Double Up” feature, which allows to connect two speakers of its kind to enhance sound. The app also comes with a built-in alarm.
The speaker also has some cool tricks on its sleeve. First off, the app for the latest speaker offers a “Block Party” support. This lets two people to connect to the speaker by means of a Bluetooth connection to play a music track.
Next are its tap controls. Through its app, they can be activated, allowing you to switch to another music track by picking up the speaker and “tapping” it. Similar to the remote built in today’s headphone cables, the speaker similarly mimics the same functionality.
Tap twice consecutively to skip music tracks or three times to move one track backwards. This may appear like a non-essential feature, but this added level of control was nowhere to be seen in the first model.
What’s more, the UE Boom 2 makes an awesome speakerphone. You can seamlessly answer and hang up voice calls by pressing the Bluetooth pairing button. The speaker has the ability to pick up voices speaking at low and medium volume without any issues.
What takes the cake is its waterproof body. With huge improvements over the original UE Boom, which was easily vulnerable to a couple liquid splashes, the UE Boom 2 is now armed with IPX7. This technology allows the product to be submerged in water one meter deep for half an hour or before risking a leakage problem.
