Not many mice come close to the Roccat Nyth and a lot of mice today only provide solutions for FPS games. MMOs require a special solution and the Roccat Nyth answers this.
If we take a closer look at the Roccat Nyth, we can clearly see the ridiculous amount of button it has. Some may even say it is overkill but there are a niche market out there that do need this type of mouse and if you ever get turned off by the amount of buttons it has, amazingly, Roccat also has an answer for this since you can swap out these buttons or even cover it, rendering it useless.
So if you think you may not need 12 buttons on the side but need let’s say 2 or 4, the Roccat Nyth allows you to swap out these buttons for other buttons that you may need. This makes the Roccat Nyth not just a mouse for MMOs but an all-around mouse that can theoretically answer a lot of the user’s needs so let’s take a deeper look at what you can really do with the Roccat Nyth.
Roccat Nyth Review – Whats in the Box?
The packaging is pleasing to look at and looks really premium. It is also very sturdy. It has a combination of a black background with sky blue highlights that makes it pop out of shelves
If you look at the front of the box, it shows off the Roccat Nyth’s rundown of its main features. The packaging also highlights its 3D print support. There is also a picture of the actual Roccat Nyth in front sporting the smaller keys on its side. At the bottom there is also a picture of the carry case that comes with the Roccat Nyth. The front of the packaging opens up like a book to reveal the beautiful mouse along with its side grip next to it. On its flap, you will find another picture of the Roccat Nyth along with its carry case and its extra accessories and a description below.
If we take look at the back of the box, it lists all the features of the Roccat Nyth in various languages. Along with the features, the picture of the mouse also has labels pointing to its parts.
The mouse itself is covered by a hard plastic to keep it in place and is sandwiched by the black surface.
Besides the obvious mouse with its side grip, there are a few more additional accessories for the Roccat Nyth. We also have the carry case which is also featured a lot in the packaging. The carry case is under the inner plastic packaging. On top of it is the Roccat name and logo. This case looks really nice on the desk but it takes up space. However, the blue highlight behind the black cover looks really nice to look at. Inside the case we will find spots for the twelve buttons that are already on the Roccat Nyth.
And inside the carry case, we will find a tremendous amount of buttons which we will go through later.
There’s also the necessary paperwork which includes a quick installation guide. It is quite simple. It covers how to connect the mouse and it explains the software called the Roccat Swarm which we will cover later. There are also a few set of stickers to go with everything.
Roccat Nyth Review – Roccat Takes a Gamble and Wins
Ergonomics paralleled with design
The Roccat Nyth’s chassis is quite heavy. The body in general is covered in a smooth, matt plastic that still has quite a bit of grip for better gaming. Its curvature is quite subtle and is spread to most of its body.
The Roccat Nyth is quite obviously a gaming mouse as you can tell with its general aesthetics. It has a unique shape compared to an ordinary desk mouse.
I’m pretty sure you’ve been staring at left side of the Roccat Nyth’s 12 buttons ever since you saw it for the first time. You’re also probably thinking at how overkill the amount of buttons it has. The Roccat Nyth is designed for MMO games which is a game that has a ton of varying skills for your character. The Nyth’s buttons on the left will come in handy for this.
The rear of the mouse is quite rounded which fits the hand really well. It slightly leans to the right for ergonomics and around the button we have a really thin line that will light up once the Roccat Nyth is powered up.
The Roccat Nyth’s left and right click buttons are angled towards the sides and front lower sections.
Towards the center of the main buttons there’s the EasyShift button which is in front of the scroll wheel. The scroll wheel feels nice since it is rubberized.
There are four PTFE pads that gives the Roccat Nyth a smooth glide on the mouse pad as well as your desk. The sensor is obviously in the middle. If we look at the right side of the sensor there is a slide latch. This releases the twelve side buttons.
The panel of the mouse has screws that keep it in place. It takes a bit of effort to remove the panel however but this is again to keep it in place.
There is a Roccat logo on the USB 2.0 connection. It isn’t gold plated but it is indeed braided. The length of the cable is 1.8 meters.
When it comes to how you use the Roccat Nyth, you have a ton of choices because of its customizable buttons. Towards the left side of the device, as you can already tell, has 12 buttons. You can remove all of these 12 buttons. It also comes with spares. You have access to 12 standard buttons, 12 curved alternatives for the standard ones, another 6 large buttons and 3 cover “buttons” that you can’t really click. This will make the button rows useless and non-clickable. You can unlock these buttons from their original position using a release slider at the underside of the Roccat Nyth which helps lock the buttons so don’t worry if you accidentally take them out in the middle of a game, you won’t. It’s locked in place.
As advertised on the packaging, more serious customizers can 3D print their own buttons to cater to their own specific needs.
The side buttons are quite small. This makes it hard for the user to accurately press a certain button. It is also under the user’s thumb which makes it easier to accidentally click one of these buttons if you squeeze the mouse tightly. To avoid these accidents, just rest your thumb towards the very bottom but to consciously avoid hitting these buttons can be a nuisance.
Towards the opposite side which is the right side of the mouse you will find a side panel that is also detachable. The Roccat Nyth has two panels. One is bigger than the other. The bigger one has a rest for the pinky finger for palm grippers and the smaller one is flat for claw grippers. Both these panels can be attached magnetically and also pops out easily.
Both these buttons as well as the side panels are all in the cool carry case that comes with the Roccat Nyth.

But also like many other gaming mice, you won’t be able to fully utilize its potential without its software so we recommend you to install the Roccat Swarm as well and if you’re owning more than one Roccat peripheral, it’s worth it.
The Roccat Nyth performed excellent when gaming. The sensor tracked accurately when used in Overwatch and CS:GO which are games that require excellent tracking sensitivity. And speaking of sensitivity, the Roccat Nyth has wide sensitivity customization ranging from 200 to 12000 dpi to cater to all kinds of gamers with varying dpi preference. Users who are gaming in Full HD most likely going over 3000 but ultra HD or 4K users will.
And when it comes to hours of gaming, comfort is also important. The amount of customization the Roccat Nyth provides will also cater to various mouse handles. If you also find that the left side buttons are a nuisance, just attach the cover “buttons” so you won’t have to deal with it if you don’t really need it either. The side panels also help with two different styles of comfort.
Lastly, the Roccat Nyth obviously shined when it comes to MMOs. Most mice aren’t really made for MMOs. A lot of them are made for FPS so it is nice to see Roccat providing MMO players an amazing alternative that covers MMO specific needs. The amount of buttons with the impressive customizability allows MMO players to excel.
The Roccat Swarm
The customization feature, which is arguably is main feature, is not the only feature that the Roccat Nyth has. Although the Roccat Nyth is a few years old, back then this new feature is quite new and Roccat has just been experimenting with it. Today, it has evolved and really defined peripheral and desktop design to a new level. This feature is actually a piece of software which unifies all of Roccat’s peripherals such as their mice and keyboards. The Roccat Swarm covers all relevant gaming platforms as well as devices. It both has a PC version as well as a smartphone app version. The PC version is powerful that you can have a ton of customization features while the app is a convenient software which serves as an extension of the computer version.
You are able to program the Roccat Nyth’s astounding numerous buttons and customize it in your own way according to how you want to use it. Let us say you want to customize it for certain games that require special buttons, you can do so and bind it to the numerous buttons that the Roccat Nyth has.
You can change its colors as well. The Roccat Nyth has colorful LED displays on both its palm rest as well as its rear that brightens up your desk in various ways.
You can set up complicated macros for very specific functions that a simple button can’t do.
Like many gaming mice, you can obviously change the DPI or dots per inch sensitivity of the Roccat Nyth from 200 and 12000. Users mostly just use DPI from 200 to at least 3000. Numbers higher than that is usually just a gimmick by brands because bigger numbers is good for marketing. You can also fine-tune the surface calibration of the mouse and a few others.
By the time the Roccat Nyth came out, the Roccat Swarm is still in beta and is obviously unfinished. But now it has become an amazing software that syncs all your Roccat peripherals and gives a lot of customization with a pretty cool and easy UI to boot.
The main feature of the Roccat Nyth is its customizability but this customizability is so well made that it also provides comfort and ergonomics along with an impressive control over the mouse.
It has a ton of options. The Roccat Nyth offers up to 40 buttons and users can also group button and even eliminate buttons to provide better comfort. Why would I keep this button if I don’t need it and makes me uncomfortable? The Roccat Nyth answers this question and provides an excellent solution that doesn’t feel forced or awkward.
The Roccat Nyth may be costly compared to other mice but the amount of customizability and features it has makes it worth every penny. It’s like buying more than one mouse since you can swap out buttons and panels and customize it in so many ways. This means that the Roccat Nyth has an answer for many of the user’s problems or needs.
