LIFX is one of the most trusted brands when it comes to smart lighting and today, we’re going to focus on the LIFX Plus A60 and BR30 Smart Lightbulbs.
We noticed that these bulbs are quite similar to the LIFX Color 1000 when it comes to the warm and soft whites, wide color range, and the evidently bright light. The only difference between the two is the infrared feature that the LIFX plus has; other than that, everything else is the same.
LIFX Plus Smart Lightbulb Review – What’s in the Box?
The first look that we had on LIFX Plus’ packaging was quite interesting; we didn’t really expect to see it in a minimalistic but beautiful packaging that is quite appealing to the eyes. At first, we thought it might not be suitable packaging to protect the lightbulbs in transit but surprisingly, it’s a sturdy container that definitely protects the bulb inside.
When you pop off the cover, the first thing you’ll see is the flat end of the bulb; when you pull out the bulb, the installation documents can be found neatly tucked in a crack that’s on the foam base.
It’s basically just like the packaging of the standard LIFX A60 and BR30 light bulbs – minimalistic, attractive, snug, well-protected, and no wasted space.
LIFX Plus Smart Lightbulb Review
Let’s focus on the product itself. When you look at the LIFX Plus appearance, it looks just like the other LIFX lightbulb offerings which came before this. The products are basically the same bulb with the same size, features, and color; what’s new is the presence of an infrared light that appears once the LIFX Plus is turned off.
What’s great about the LIFX Plus is that is can give a total of 16 million colors, white shades from 2500k to 9000k, are dimmable, and can be equipped with 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi. Additionally, the LIFX Plus also features an additional infrared LED built-in which works by giving invisible lighting at night; this is very useful if you have any night vision security cameras in your home.
Another great thing about the LIFX plus bulbs is that these are compatible with numerous third-party applications such as SmartThings, Nest Protect, and The Nest Learning Thermostat to name a few; you can also link these with the Echo Dot and Amazon Echo smart speakers for voice-activation light changes via Alexa. LIFX Plus is also available for IFTTT.

Using the Product
The LIFX Plus work just the same as the previous LIFX bulbs but these are much brighter at every white and color setting; it’s a greater improvement given that these bulbs don’t utilize more energy than the previous LIFX bulbs do so that’s something really notable about the LIFX Plus.
Everything is the same except for the Plus’ infrared diodes that easily cast out invisible light once these are turned off; this is the same light that is present in night vision cameras which means that LIFX Plus can provide greater visibility for night vision cameras that are set in low light conditions.
We can say that this is definitely a cool and very useful feature which makes LIFX Plus a recommendable product especially if you have night vision cameras at home.
Although it has a ton of great features, LIFX Plus is one of the easiest smart lightbulbs to install without needing any additional hardware or hub. You just need to install the bulb, download the app, then play with the settings to get the colors and hues that you prefer.
The LIFX Plus is just like the original LIFX LED bulb and the LIFX Color 1000 since it makes use of a built-in W-Fi radio to link to your home network; once everything’s connected, you’ll be able to control LIFX Plus from any place that has stable internet connection.
Once you download the LIFX app, you will be required to register an account with LIFX, then after that, you’ll be given a couple of instructions to connect the light. When you’ve successfully paired this, your LIFX Plus bulb will blink to indicate that the connection was successful. You can do this for all the LIFX bulbs that you have in your home which will be easy enough to control since you can group your lights depending on your choice.
As for its infrared feature, it simply turns on when the bulb is off; LIFX has already updated their application so you can easily adjust the infrared’s brightness or you can turn it off when needed.
A big advantage that LIFX Plus has over other brands is the fact that it can emit infrared light which helps your LIFX Plus emits invisible light that security cameras need to see in low light conditions.
The issue concerning a lot of security cameras is that these can only fill a certain area with infrared light to see clearly which is why the LIFX Plus A60 and BR30 Smart Lightbulb is something that we’d really recommend if you have any security cameras set up in your home.
Aside from this, the Plus is undeniably brighter and more efficient as ever since it features an efficient, reliable, easy to use, and well-designed app that you can control anytime and anyplace that has a reliable internet connection.
