The market of wireless over-head headphones is filled with great options at mid-range prices; however, it’s still a bit challenging to find something that looks and sounds good with a price that ranges below $150. But as companies continue to perfect their wireless devices, a new type of affordable wireless over-ears is appearing in the market. Today, we’ll be focusing on the JBL E55BT Wireless Headphones which is said to be a great-sounding device that won’t break your budget.
We know that JBL is a company that has been producing quality products, and they claim that their E55BT is just as good as their other devices. We’re going to see if these wireless headphones are just as good as they claim it to be, while also learning more about its features, performance, and if it’s something that you should consider purchasing.
Before anything else, let’s first check out what’s included in the package of the E55BT Wireless Headphones.
JBL E55BT Wireless Headphones Review – What’s in the Box?
The JBL E55BT Wireless Headphones is kept in a simple-looking box with a clean design. The box’s front features the image of the headphones itself, the company logo, and the name of the device which is on the upper left portion; at the back of the box, you will find a long list of the E55BT’s general specifications.
Now, to open the box, the first thing that you have to do is pull out the black container to see all its contents; once you’ve done this, you will get to see the vibrant red E55BT headphones which is kept inside a formed plastic interior. The upper portion of the box that holds the device is linked by a smaller box in its lower section; this contains the 2.5 to 3.5-millimeter audio cable, a micro USB cable that you’ll need for charging, and the user guide. JBL included a one-year limited warranty on all E55BT headphones and this would qualify for defective headphones to be exchanged in authorized local or online retailers. Just remember to keep your valid receipt to present this as well. Other items that are present in the box include the safety sheet, warning card, and a QSG.
JBL E55BT Wireless Headphones Review – Cord Free, Comfortable and Smooth Sounds
The JBL E55BT Wireless Headphones is made with a cloth-lined headband and soft, faux leather earpads. The ear cups’ outer panels are made of matte plastic, adorned with the company’s logo right in the middle. The headphone’s fit is secure and because of its generous cushioning in the ear cups and headband, you can comfortably utilize the E55BT for prolonged periods without having to worry about any discomfort or pain. In each earcup, the presence of a 50-millimeter driver provides excellent audio.
For the built-in controls, you’ll find these on the device’s right earcup. The buttons are made of durable plastic, so you won’t have to worry about breakages. There is also a pairing / power switch with a status LED present, a three-button control panel that features a main multifunction button, as well as a plus & minus button for the volume. This works together with your smartphone’s master volume. When you hold down these two buttons, it will also control the track navigation which we think is something convenient.
When it comes to the ear-cups, each of these have a connection point for cables. The left ear holds the micro USB connection for the charging cable while the right ear has the connection for the 3.5-millimeter audio cable; this allows you to enjoy passive, wired listening. Automatically linking the audio cable shifts the device into passive mode to save battery life. The E55BT’s detachable audio cable features an in-line, single-button mic and remote that is set below the chin level. We used the Voice Memos app on an iPhone 6s; the cable’s microphone recording was clear, and every word was easy to discern. We also tried this with the built-in, wireless microphone of the device and it sounded just as clear.
The included tangle-resistant cloth cable is also very useful; it includes a single-button remote and a mic; one end of the cable bends at a forty-five-degree angle. We also tested the battery life of the E55BT and just as JBL stated, it lasted around twenty hours under heavy usage; we even maxed out the volume of the device and the battery still lasted long.
The JBL E55BT features a 50-millimeter dynamic driver and a 3.5-millimeter plug. For its frequency response, it ranges from 20 Hz to 20 kHz and it has an impedance of 32Ω; also, its battery is good for twenty hours. As mentioned above, the JBL E55BT Wireless Headphones comes with a one-year limited warranty.
For the product features, the JBL E55BT Wireless Headphones does bring the signature sound of JBL products, and all we can say is that it does produce quality sounds. The JBL E55BT is one of the most versatile devices from the company that features up to twenty hours of battery life, as well as a stylish and ingenious fabric headband that focuses on comfort and aesthetics. Its ergonomic design also keeps things more convenient since you can enjoy listening to your music no matter what you’re doing. The E55BT also has the multi-device connectivity feature that lets you seamlessly alter between two devices.
When it comes to the headphones’ recharge time, you’ll only need a total of two hours to have continuous audio playback of up to twenty hours with the JBL E55BT. Now for its wired mode, its bundled cable is generally compatible with almost all smartphones today, allowing you to have seamless audio control as well as hands-free calls. You can also control the sounds on the ear-cups; you just need to enter wireless mode and control your ear-cups for easier management of calls and music.
Finally, the JBL E55BT Wireless Headphones has a much better ergonomic design, with form-fitting ear cushions that are comfortable enough to let you appreciate your music while on the go. The design also allows you to wear the headphones for prolonged periods since it won’t hurt your ears in the process. The tangle-free cord design is also an advantage since you won’t have to bother untangling the cord of your E55BT.

Using the Product
Setting up the JBL E55BT is as easy as most wireless Bluetooth headphones. Simply power on the E55BT, then press the pairing button; all you have to do is wait for a few seconds until you hear a sound notifying that you’re in pairing mode. On your Bluetooth-enabled device, select the E55BT then pair these. From there, you can start listening to any music.
JBL tuned their E55BT wireless headphones to have a modified sound signature. It’s a good change since it meets the needs of what a lot of consumers want in wireless headphones: boosted bass and highs that are proportionate to the mids. The 50-millimeter dynamic driver that is fit into the JBL E55BT provides a wider range of frequency response, and greater overall clarity to help the device bring out quality sounds for your listening pleasure.
For music with extreme sub-bass content, the E55BT delivers extra thump that doesn’t distort even when you maximize the volume. When it comes to the more balanced volume levels, the drivers still provide notable bass responses that are adequately balanced with well-defined, crisp, and clean highs and high-mids.
The general soundstage was as dynamic and wide as the sounds produced by more expensive over-ear headphones that we’ve tried. This, together with the solid audio reproduction feature, makes the JBL E55BT wireless headphones an excellent device for listening to music daily. As for the batteries, JBL’s claims were true since the battery lasted long despite hitting the volume to its maximum. At 50% volume, we were able to play music longer, but at this level, the speakers were already dangerously loud, so we listened to our tunes with much lower volume levels.
Either way, the sounds produced were still clear and audible even when we maximized the JBL E55BT’s volume. Charging only took two hours via micro USB which is another convenient feature of the device; so overall, we’re giving the JBL E55BT a thumbs-up for its performance.
The JBL’s E55BT offers perfectly balanced audio, as well as powerful bass responses with clear and crisp highs. If you’re someone who likes having additional bass depth without throwing the sound balance will greatly appreciate these headphones.
The JBL E55BT is a great option if you’re also searching for affordable headphones that look simple, are comfortable, and produces warm, balanced sounds. JBL has been well-known for producing solid headphones and speakers for years, so you can be sure that the E55BT will be as noteworthy as the other products from the company.
Also, you won’t find a lot of budget-friendly headphones that can offer the same look, functionality, and quality sounds as the JBL E55BT. Therefore, we highly recommend these wireless headphones for your enjoyment.
