In a new agreement with Twentieth Century Fox Television Distribution, Hulu acquired exclusive subscription streaming rights for ABC’s comedy show Fresh Off the Boat. This includes all on-demand rights to the complete series of ABC’s hit show. Besides having access to all episodes of the comedy series, which includes the third season, Twentieth Century Fox Television Distribution also made future episodes of the series. This includes the fourth season which will also be available to be streamed on the day after the show airs on ABC on Hulu’s online streaming service.
This same deal also gave Hulu the rights to stream Twentieth Century Fox series The Exorcist along with The Carmichael Show. Hulu becomes the exclusive service that can stream Fox’s new thriller. Both of these shows are now available to be streamed on Hulu’s service.
“With its funny and poignant storytelling, Fresh Off the Boat is a perfect addition to our growing offering of the biggest comedies on TV today. We are thrilled to be streaming home to the complete series, as well as even more series from Fox,” Said Hulu’s head of content acquisition, Lisa Holme.
“We are extremely excited that Fresh Off the Boat will now be available to Hulu’s subscribers. We’ve always believed this show’s unique comical point of view on American life was deserving of as a wide audience as possible. We are happy that Hulu subscribers will be able to watch this fun, funny, family friendly show from its inception” said Evan Scheffel, executive VP, the Americas, 20th Century Fox TV Distribution.
Fresh Off the Boat is based from Chef Eddie Huang’s memoir of his own auto-biography with the same name. It chronicles his former 12 year old, hip-hop loving self who is portrayed by Hudson Yang. Eddie moved to Orlando from Chinatown along with his parents (Randall Park and Constance Wu). The show is written by Nahnatchaka Khan who is also an executive producer and showrunner of the series. Besides Nahnatchaka, Jake Kasdan and Melvin Mar are also both executive producers. Fresh Off the Boat is the first primetime sitcom in over 20 years to feature an all-Asian American cast. The stars include Randall Park, Constance Wu, Hudson Yang, Forrest Wheeler and Ian Chen.
The new deal follows Hulu’s announced agreement with Twentieth Century Fox Television Distribution that has made Hulu the exclusive streaming video on-demand with subscription to this year’s popular drama series, “This is Us”. Both Fresh Off the Boat and This is Us also join the full libraries of programming that streams exclusively on Hulu which includes Empire, The Last Man on Earth, Black-ish, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, The Goldbergs and Homeland.
