The world is obsessed with video streaming services. 55% of American households subscribe to at least one video streaming service, according to CNBC. In total, U.S citizens splash out $2.1 billion every month so that they can binge watch countless box sets. Some individuals are so committed to their streaming service provider, that they put their career on the line in order to get their fix. AJC reports that 37% of workers confess to binge-watching Netflix at work. But, if you stream online content like a pro, is it possible to ditch your full-time job and make your money by working directly with the big streaming providers?

Become a Netflix Tagger

Netflix Taggers are formally known as Editorial Analysts. There are just 30 Tagger jobs in existence and the job involves watching Netflix shows and tagging them with metadata. However, it’s not a job that just anyone can do. Netflix’s job application states that candidates should have “deep knowledge, five-plus years experience, and education in the film and/or television industry.” Tagger, Sherrie Gulmahamad, suggests anyone looking to work for Netflix complete an archival or library studies program to aid their application. It’s also important to note that Taggers typically watch just 20 hours of content a week, with the rest of the working week taken up with research, tagging and other admin duties.

Expand your horizons with Hulu

According to Statista, one of Hulu’s biggest audiences is Millennials. They state that 30% of all active Hulu subscriptions are held by Millennials. However, these 25-34 year-olds typically have $42,000 of debt, with 16% of it being student debt, reports CNBC. Therefore, seeking out a job at Hulu is a great way to take control of your finances and your student debt. This is because when you earn a solid income through a large employer such as Hulu, you’ll have better refinancing and repayment opportunities. Jason Nellis worked for Hulu between 2008 and 2012 and states that he enjoyed various roles during his employment, including working on the Technology team and Content Management team. Meanwhile, Media Jobs cites that there are more than 150 jobs currently available with the entertainment company. Therefore, jobs are plentiful and cover a wide range of sectors, so the chance to utilize your degree and earn good money is high.

Become part of Amazon Prime’s expansion plans

Last year, Amazon launched a big hiring initiative in New York to find 2,000 employees for their Amazon Live team. Little is known about Amazon Live as of yet. However, CNBC speculates that live streaming will be used to encourage shoppers to buy goods. Therefore, if you adore streaming content, getting involved in the creation and even staring in the videos yourself, could be the perfect job. Meanwhile, Amazon posted a vacancy for a “Sr Digital Content Producer,” on LinkedIn earlier this year, which was listed under “AZ Live LLC”. The job description stated that the successful candidate would develop and produce video content. Therefore, this led Fast Company to report that the streaming provider is continuing to plow ahead with some secret live video streaming expansion plans.

Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime all offer a variety of roles for video streaming fanatics looking to share and expand their passion for streaming. Therefore, if you think you’ve got what it takes, it’s wise to keep an eye out for roles available from these companies on popular job advertisement boards.
