The Corsair K70 RGB can be referred to as an almost perfect keyboard. It features a sleek design, classic Cherry MX switches, plus a collection of colorful and eye-catching rainbow backlights. After a couple of years developing and enhancing its design, the company released their K70 RGB MK.2 where Corsair’s efforts have greatly paid off.
Corsair updated and enhanced their high-end K70 mechanical keyboard by integrating adequate features that will make every gamer and enthusiast want the new K70 RGB MK.2. The changes that the company made may not really be that noticeable at the beginning, but Corsair did make some mild yet very efficient changes throughout the device.
We spent some time with Corsair’s K70 RGB MK.2 to see how well it performed, what upgrades were made, its features, and if its enhancements make it worth purchasing. So with that, let’s go ahead and focus on the K70 RGB MK.2 by looking at what’s inside the box.
Corsair K70 RGB MK.2 Review – What’s in the Box?
Just like their usual packaging, Corsair chose to exhibit a photo of their K70 RGB MK.2 right on the package to give you an idea on how the keyboard looks. They also included details such as the kind of Cherry MX switches that were used, as well as some other primary and important features of the device.
Both the contents of the package and the K70 RGB MK.2’s specifications are listed at the base of the box and these are written in six different languages.
The five primary features of the device are also displayed right at the top of the package. You will see a rather large image of the product together with a couple of smaller ones that are positioned at the rear portion of the package. These are utilized to display the special features and keys of the Corsair K70 RGB MK.2.
Their packaging is exceptional as always, so when you open up the box, you’ll find the K70 RGB MK.2 wrapped securely in plastic and set in a formed piece of extension cardboard box. The company improved the items included in the bundle of their K70 RGB MK.2 and they added ten textured MOBA / FPS keycaps, as well as a keycap puller. Of course, they still included the usual user manual and warranty information documents.
Corsair K70 RGB MK.2 Review – Corsair Hits Another One Out Of The Park!
When you first glance at the K70 RGB MK.2, you’ll notice that it looks exactly like its predecessor; the only notable difference between the two is the glowing logo of Corsair which can be found right at the top center of the device. The previous version of the keyboard only featured a plastic logo, so the company added more style to it, giving the logo some good illumination.
Its brushed, dark, aluminum body of the K70 RGB MK.2 remains the same and it feels and looks excellent. If we were to compare the device’s body to another keyboard, the first thing that comes to mind would be Corsair’s flagship K95 Platinum.
We noticed that there definitely is a pleasant and adequate weight to the board; plus, we never really had any issues with the device sliding our desks when we used it for some tests and during intense gaming sessions. The detachable wrist rest slightly differs from the original K70; the new type features a rubberized grip that is much softer and more comfortable compared to the hard plastic on the previous model.
Thankfully, the wrist rest is also larger this time which is one of the big and best changes made to the MK.2, it will definitely fit those with larger hands and would still be comfortable for those with smaller ones.
The device easily hooks up to your computer using the HQ braided cable; this is the same cable as the thick braided sleeve as in the previous model. It also features a single 2.0 USB passthrough along the rear; its impressive RGB lighting is also controlled via the iCUE app while the keycaps are the same clean-cut and bold LUX ABS as before.
To power up the K70 RGB MK.2, you will need two USB ports just like with the previous model since it has a 2.0 USB passthrough right at the back of the frame – this is convenient for linking a mouse or a headset.
When it comes to the K70 RGB MK.2’s keycaps, it features a floating design which is present on almost all of the mechanical keyboards from Corsair. This definitely benefits the RGB lighting that dances beneath the keys, making it extremely easy to clean and dust whenever necessary.
The caps can also be removed easily and Corsair even included a key pulling tool together with the collection of replacement caps specifically for the WASD keys. These replacement keys have an elevated and textured finish, making them look great next to the other matte black keys on the device. We really enjoyed using the K70 RGB MK.2 for FPS or first-person shooters; plus, the company included keycaps for MOBA gamers as well which is really cool and convenient.
Now beneath the keycaps, the company stuck with their ever-present collection of Cherry MX mechanical switches. There are five varying switch options available now compared to just the three options in the previous model.
Above the number pad, Corsair lightly tweaked the appearance of the device’s media control but mostly left things unchanged: you’ll still find a row of dedicated media keys which are highly distinct and easy to find when you’re just listening to music on Spotify and chilling for the moment. At the top of the media keys, you’ll find the volume roll bar which is set in a really good position.
The Corsair K70 RGB MK.2 is a full-sized MMO and MOBA gaming keyboard that features Cherry MX Red key switches. It has a full key (NKRO) keyboard rollover that offers 100% anti-ghosting. It comes with three on-board memory profiles and has an HID report rate is 1000 Hz.
For the keys, the Corsair K70 RGB MK.2 is complete with 104 keys and it includes WIN Lock keys as well as media keys. When it comes to the keyboard’s body, it features an RGB backlighting weighs a total of 125 grams; as for its height, it is adjustable depending on your preference.
The keyboard is connected via Type A USB 2.0 and the cable of the keyboard is braided to keep the cord secure. The device is also compatible with Windows 7, 8, and 10. The Corsair K70 RGB MK.2 comes with a detachable wrist rest, as well as extra colored and textured FPS / MOBA keycaps. It is also backed by a two-year warranty which is something good for such devices.

Using the Product
To test the K70 RGB MK.2, we played a variety of games under different genres and we really appreciated that it did not favor a specific genre over another. It worked well for any type of game and the media keys were very useful since we were able to easily play our favorite music or podcasts in the middle of a gameplay.
The Cherry MX Red switches were really quick and efficient and are an absolute dream to game on. The key spacing on this keyboard was also comfortable and was perfect for any type of game. The volume wheel was also very easy to use especially for quick adjustments of game audio on the go. Moreover, its RGB lighting has a good level of brightness and it doesn’t become a distraction during gameplay.
The iCUE Software
The K70 RGB MK.2 from Corsair makes use of the company’s catch call software which is called the iCUE – its previous name was simply CUE. In any case, the software should be instantly familiar to anyone who has already utilized Corsair’s products before; but if you’ve never really had the chance to, it is a really good software with a great collection of tools that lets you readily set macros and customize RGB lighting.
The Corsair iCUE software also links all of your compatible devices in one interface, providing you with ultimate control over everything from RGB effects and lighting to temperature monitoring and fan speed.
Coordinated lighting across your iCUE-compatible devices will definitely bring your system to life while its excellent macro control enhances and further improves your game. Combined with a precise system & dynamic fan control, as well as voltage & temperature monitoring, iCUE provides you with an intelligent control with extensive possibilities.
It’s also great that you can actually download the software from Corsair’s official website for free. We can say that the software works well and you can easily sync lighting between all your Corsair devices as well as internal computer hardware parts.
Customized Lighting Patterns
What always sets the company’s RGB keyboards apart from the rest of the devices that are out in the market is iCUE’s outstanding ability to customize lighting patterns. We tried setting up a pattern wherein the whole K70 RGB MK.2 rippled in a beautiful and rather unpredictable rainbow everytime we tried typing something.
Another cool thing about it is that it’s also easy to set up color waves and even static or breathing colors. From the lighting effects tab, you can select one of nine available effects or you can also create your own if you want; it’s also great that you’re allowed to adjust the direction, speed, as well as combine as many of these with the per-key lighting feature.
The K70 RGB MK.2 is a great follow-up product to a mechanical gaming keyboard; it gives you everything that made its predecessor a great product, but with several new and excellent features to enhance this. The K70 RGB MK.2 has something for everyone – it is not only physically appealing, but it’s also sturdy and functional.
It may be on the pricier side of gaming keyboards in the market but is durable chassis and high-quality mechanical switches make it a smart investment that will let you enjoy gaming for a long period of time. Also, its iCUE software is still among the best programs since it has the most user-friendly interface.
Overall, the K70 MK.2 continues the Corsair’s legacy when it comes to the company’s classic keyboard design; it also remains the best choice among all mechanical keyboards that have arisen for the past few years. If you want a high-quality gaming keyboard that is also highly-responsive, customizable, and functional, we recommend that you purchase Corsair’s K70 RGB MK.2 keyboard.
